Chinese New Year DIY

I have 2 DIY ideas to share with you, which you can apply and save some $$ during Chinese New Year... If it is too late for this year, you may consider it next year :)

1. DIY Gift Basket

It looks like a basket of flower. In actual, it is a gift basket that full with new year cookies, chocolate, canned food, red wine... etc. You can put in whatever you like. What you need is just to buy a rattan basket which cost a few dollars and decorate with plastic new year flowers that you can easily get it everywhere at a very cheap price. After that, you can add on some red packets and ribbons. It is very easy right? So you can think of to do it by yourself.... save some $$.

2. DIY "Dragon Ball" Lantern

Materials needed: a) 30 pieces of red packets (‘Ang Pow’) b) Stapler & Bullets c) Other Chinese New Year ornaments Estimated Time: 1 – 2 hours depending on your experience

Step 1:Fold the ‘Ang pows’ as show in the picture

Step 2:

‘Ang pow 1’ and ‘Ang pow 2’ facing each other. Staple at the slanting folding line at the upper right corner of ‘Ang pow 1’. Repeat the same step for ‘Ang pow’ 2, 3, 4 & 5.

Completion of Step 2 will look like this.

Step 3:

Join another ‘Ang pow’ horizontally in between ‘Ang pow 1’ and ‘Ang pow 5’. Repeat the same step for another 4.

Completion of Step 3.

Part A = Part C

Step 4:

a) ‘Ang pow 1’ and ‘Ang pow 2’ facing each other. Staple at the slanting line at the upper right corner of ‘Ang pow 1’. b) ‘Ang pow 3’ attach to ‘Ang pow 2’. Staple at the folding line at the lower right corner of ‘Ang pow 2’. Repeat (a) & (b) until 10th ‘Ang pow’ to make a circle.

Part B

Step 5:

Repeat Step 2 & Step 3 to make Part C.

Step 6:

Attach Part A, Part B & Part C.

Step 7:

Fold in and staple every corner of ‘Ang pow’ to become triangle shape.

You may need the red ribbon and small fan accessories to complete the DIY "Dragon Ball". You can use it to decorate your living room or hang it at the door entrance.
